Selection of core raw materials and their compatibility with extrusion. Corn flour and wheat flour are preferred starch-based raw materials. These materials have good gelatinization properties, providing support for extrusion and forming the core of floating feed. Their proportion should be controlled between 35% and 50%. If the starch content is too low, the sinking fish feed extruder machine cannot form sufficient pores, making it difficult for the particles to float; if the proportion is too high, the particles will lack hardness and easily break apart. High-quality protein raw materials such as fishmeal and soybean meal should be selected, accounting for 25%-40%. Excessive protein content will inhibit starch gelatinization, affecting the extrusion effect; a balance must be achieved through appropriate starch content. Avoid adding too much high-fiber raw material (such as straw powder and brewer's grains). The addition amount should be ≤15%, otherwise it will hinder starch gelatinization, leading to insufficient extrusion and accelerating wear on the extruder screw and barrel.

Targeted formulation design (suitable for different fish species). Grass carp, common carp, and other bottom-dwelling fish (sinking feed): 30% corn flour + 25% soybean meal + 15% fish meal + 15% wheat flour + 10% vegetable meal + 5% oil. Moisture content should be controlled at 13%-14%. This feed should be adapted to the low-temperature, low-pressure parameters of a floating feed making machine to ensure stable pellet sinking.

Bass, tilapia, and other mid-to-upper-level fish (floating feed): 40% corn flour + 15% wheat flour + 20% fish meal + 15% soybean meal + 10% oil. Increase starch content and adapt to the high-temperature, high-pressure parameters of an extruder to ensure buoyancy and water resistance.

Juvenile fish feed: Increase fish meal content to 25%-30%, reduce starch content to 30%-35%, and grind raw materials to 100 mesh. Adapt to the low-speed, low-temperature parameters of a floating feed extruder to make the pellets loose and easily digestible.

Key details of raw material pretreatment. The moisture content of the raw materials must be strictly controlled between 12% and 14%, which is the optimal range for efficient operation of the extruder. Excessive moisture can cause the raw materials to stick to the screw and die of the mini floating fish feed machine, leading to blockages; insufficient moisture results in insufficient frictional heating, requiring additional steam consumption and increasing energy costs. All raw materials must be thoroughly and evenly mixed to avoid localized high starch or protein content, which would lead to uneven particle quality after processing. Simultaneously, thorough cleaning of impurities is essential to prevent wear and tear on the core components of the extruder.
